Maroochy Barambah

Passed away with family at her side, surrounded by love, on 28 January 2026. Adored dearly by her daughters, Baringa and Kulkarawa, and her grandson, Dalapai. Cherished by her siblings and their families, her friends and by many of the broader Brisbane community. Maroochy was a powerful advocate for Aboriginal rights and cultural recognition, and a pioneering artist whose voice carried the stories, strength, and spirit of her people across the nation. As a revered Turrbal elder, a traditional Songwoman and Australia’s first Aboriginal opera singer, Maroochy will be cherished and remembered forever. Those who knew, loved and respected Maroochy are invited to attend her funeral ceremony in Maleny which will be followed by a burial ceremony in Cherbourg.
